Dancing With Toni Morrison on The Eve of Birth

(based on true events and schizophrenia)

You said, "mama's a hurtin'," I remember your lungs were broken, and you held me tight, and I breathed into you.

With all my airways wide open, I said, "give me, I'll take the pain, ma' " and wept as if tears could preserve your body.

God nearly fell when we spun the world into heavenly darkness. Dancing in the night, like criminals, we got away with making blackness good. Then you slept in my arms and never woke up, and there was snow in the dawn. It buried my feet, and the globe shook all day. A star fell.
