I Love a Stranger

“So Close, So Far”

The extent to which time will stretch while you're away,

Can't be measured by tape,

Nor can it be walked, nor can it escape

The reach of space.

For the last time, I placed my hand in yours

And surrendered; for an instant, you held me,

Reminding me how distant you'd be – how time

Would run away from us – and who's to say we'll remember each other?

Come back someday.

Perhaps, I've held you like a

Thumbprint.

Maybe it was real. I don't know yet.

The years it takes me to un-remember you,

That if I see you again, your face will

Be one of a stunning stranger.
