The Space Between the Sun and the Mountaintop

The Sun would begin a journey around the world in two hours. It was embarrassed by its weakness in the cold and avoided looking people in the eyes at all costs, but I saw through it anyways. In this part of the world, its bulb seemed held up by the tip of the mountaintop. Clouds drifted aside, opening a direct pathway of light into my chest, warming it through all its labor. It waited for me, and I for it, stalling time for as long as we could get away with it. My bones would curl without its light and so, why would Sun, shine at all?

By 3 pm, it could no longer hang on to the peak. "I'll be back, it whispered, but now it is time to go."

I opened my eyes. Felt a tear on my cheek, and that was when the space between the Sun and the mountaintop closed.

Such a nice string of words put together about the sun. I liked how you described the sun saying farewell and how it would disappear below the mountains. Keep going.
